Opening in 1931 as Perry Stadium, the stadium played a vital role in both segregated and integrated baseball throughout the years. Teams such as the ABC’s, American Giants, Athletics, and the Crawfords all utilized the field, with the longest tenure belonging to the Indianapolis Clowns who played from 1944-1962 with the Indianapolis Indians integrating in 1952.
During then 1940’s the name was changed to Victory Stadium to reflect patriotism during World War II; however, in 1967 the stadium was sold to the city and later renamed for a third time to Bush Stadium to honor MLB Player and Indianapolis-native Donnie Bush. The property has been used as not only a baseball venue, but also as a film set as it was used as the primary location for ‘Eight Men Out’ in 1987 as well as a dirt track for midget auto racing in 1997.
